Ese Brume in action for Nigeria at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games

Reigning African and Commonwealth Champion Ese Brume made her debut at the Drake Relays held in Des Moines, USA on Saturday, April 29th where she placed 2nd in the women’s Long Jump with a mark of 6.49m (3.4) while competing for Adidas.

The event was won by British Record holder Lorraine Ugen with the same distance, while former Olympic Champion Brittney Reese placed 3rd with a leap of 6.27m.

The Rio 2016 finalist who is currently studying at the Eastern Mediterranean University in Cyprus, will be aiming to hit the London 2017 entry standard of 6.75m as soon as possible.

Meanwhile Ikpefan Obokhare ran the overall fastest time of 51.20s to win the men’s 400m Hurdles as David Kendziera (51.45s) and Noah Larrison (51.55s) followed.

Olympic Bronze medallist LaShawn Merritt won the Men’s 400m Rio Rematch, clocking a time of 45.41s to lead the pack as Vernon Norwood followed in 45.68s. Tony McQuay was 3rd in 45.89s and Paul Dedewo 4th in 45.96s. Former Olympic Champion Kirani James placed a distant 6th (46.21s) in the race.

Olympic Champion Omar McLeod won the 110m Hurdles in a World Lead (WL) and Elite Meet Record of 13.04s and was followed by Andrew Pozzi in 13.24s. Aleec Harris and Aries Merritt placed 3rd and 4th respectively in 13.37s and 13.44s.

World Record (WR) holder Kendra Harrison was the woman to beat as she raced to victory in the women’s 100m Hurdles Elite category in a time of 12.56s as Jasmin Stowers followed with a time of 12.76s. Dawn Harper-Nelson placed 3rd in 12.79s.

Nike’s Georganne Moline dominated the women’s 400m Hurdles Elite after returning a time 54.66s, finishing ahead of Kori Carter (54.72s), Leah Nugent (55.94s) and Kemi Adekoya (56.29s).

Michael Stigler of Adidas won the Men’s 400m Hurdles Rio Rematch in 49.07s, with Bershawn Jackson (49.70s) and Javier Culson (49.78s) placing 2nd and 3rd respectively.
