After setting up centres in Lagos and Enugu, Making of Champions (MoC) has now officially launched another Track Club in Port Harcourt, expanding operations to the South-South region of the country.

MoC’s Athletes have enrolled to study at the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport): Ifunanya Muoghalu and ARCO Group-sponsored Jeremiah Jakpa ,who both recently gained admission to the University, the club’s head coach in Enugu, Olympic medallist Uchenna Emedolu has taken up dual roles to coach athletes in these two centres.

Since arriving in Port Harcourt, the expertise Emedolu brings can been seen in the reverence and adulation other Uniport athletes accord him, before and after each training sessions he takes MoC athletes, with the 2004 Olympic medallist being someone you can easily identify on a first time recognition.

Olympic Medallist Uchenna Emedolu still has a spring in his step

Meanwhile, the South-South National University Games (NUGA) preliminaries commences next week. Interestingly, all MoC athletes made the Uniport team that will be representing the school at the competition.

Hopefully, these athletes will qualify from the preliminaries and compete in NUGA, which comes up in mid April in Abuja.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources. Formerly the Content Manager-Sports at Ringier media Nigeria, Chris is a Senior Sports writer, Photographer & Community manager at Making of Champions.
