Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has qualified for the semi-final of the women’s 100m Hurdles at Rio 2016 Olympics, after finishing 5th in Heat 5 clocking 12.99s.

The African Games Champion, competed in one of the fastest Heats with Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn taking the win in 12.70s, ahead of World Bronze medallist, Alina Talay who clocked 12.74s, while Germany’s Pamela Dutkiewicz was 3rd in 12.90s.

Amusan coming to Rio, had a Season’s Best (SB)/Personal Best (PB) of 12.83s, which is the African Junior Record (AJR) and fastest time posted by a junior hurdler in 2016. The 19-year old would be happy with her progression, after not winning a medal at the World Junior Championships in Poland, back in June even though she went into the Championships as the fastest Junior in the world.

Other competitors who made it through to the semis running fast times are: former World Champion Brianna Rollins of USA, who clocked the fastest time of 12.54s, teammate Kristi Castlin (12.68s), NCAA Champion Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (12.70s) and Great Britain’s Cindy Ofili (12.75s).
