World Champion, Christian Taylor has successfully retained his Triple Jump Olympic title, after leaping to a World Lead of 17.88m to win at the ongoing Rio Olympic Games.

The American made his winning jump in his very first attempt, responding to China’s Bin Dong, who made an opening leap of 17.58s. Interestingly, all medal winners secured their podium placement in their very first attempt at the competition.

The first being Dong, who set the pace with his impressive opening mark of 17.58m, which was just enough to get him the Bronze medal. Meanwhile, Will Claye had to dig deep to record a Personal Best (PB) of 17.76m, which was just enough to win the Silver medal.

Taylor’s dominance in the Triple Jump has been an outstanding one thus far, having the best marks in the world in the past one year, with his PB of 18.21m being the 2nd best in history, just behind the World Record (WR) of 18.29m.

Another incredible athlete who retained her Olympic title is Sandra Perkovic in the women’s Discus, whose only legal throw of 69.21m, was enough to get her hands on the GOLD medal.

The Croatian being under intense pressure to defend her title, had no throws in her first two attempts but her third attempt was long enough to surpass that of her competitors, and cement her place in the annals of history.

Frenchwoman, Melina Robert-Michon won the Silver medal throwing a distance of 66.73m, while Cuba’s Denia Caballero settled for Bronze with 65.34m.
