On Day 6 of the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Team Nigeria competed in two sports unlike on Day 5 that they only had one representation.

Samson Opuakpa who was one of the Nigerian Swimmers given wild cards to the Games, finished 3rd in this heat with a time of 24.85s. Opuakpa could not qualify for the semi finals after placing 59th overall, as only 16 swimmers with the fastest times go through.

Meanwhile in Basketball, Nigeria fought gallantly but it was not enough as they were beaten by world number two ranked team, Spain.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
