Qatar struck its second GOLD medal of the IAAF U20 World Championships in no other event than the men’s Discus where Mohamed Ibrahim Moaaz threw a new National U20 Record of 63.63m on the final day of competition in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

It was an incredible one for Mooaz who recorded the mark at his first and only valid attempt, as he fouled on all three subsequent throws. The Qatari’s new mark betters the Asian Junior Championships Record of 60.49m he set earlier this year, and the 17-year old would be pleased to see that he is indeed making progress.

Home boy Oskar Stachnik took the Silver in a Personal Best (PB) of 62.83m, which he recorded at his third attempt, after throwing 55.80m and 60.06m at his first and second throws. Hleb Zhuk of Belarus won Bronze, also with a PB of 61.70m, and Wictor Petersson 4th with a PB of 61.23m.

Meanwhile the women’s High Jump event was won by Michaela Hrubá of the Czech Republic whose clearance of 1.91m was enough for the GOLD medal.  Ximena Lizbeth Esquivel of Mexico was 2nd with 1.89m, as Ukrainian Yuliia Levchenko won Bronze (1.86m).
