Yanis David will be seeking to make history as the first athlete to get to the podium in two individual events at the ongoing World U20 Championships in Poland. The 18-year old needed just one jump to take the lead in the women’s Long Jump event on Friday, and her first leap of 6.42m was enough to gift her with the GOLD medal.

Her second attempt landed at 6.29m, and she was subsequently fouled in her third and fourth attempts. Germany’s Sophie Weissenberg was 2nd in 6.40m, as another French woman, Hilary Kpatcha won Bronze with a PB of 6.33m.

David has a Personal Best (PB) of 6.48m, set earlier this year. However she seems to have won more trophies in the Triple Jump, including the last Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing where she claimed GOLD with a mark of 13.33m.

As such, she will be included in the lineup for the Triple Jump final on Saturday, and her Season’s Best (SB) of 13.50m ranks her at 5th position in the field. It remains to be seen if she can pull off a successive victory, or at least settle for a medal placement in the event.
