Nigeria-born Ayomide Folorunso is steadily recording remarkable improvement in her career, winning the 400m title at the Italian Indoor Championships in Ancona.

Folorunsho powered her way to victory, running a new indoor Personal Best (PB) of 53.16s, a better time than her outdoor mark of 53.35s. Chiara Bazzoni finished 2nd in 53.86s as Marta Milani came in 3rd in 53.97s.

The 19-year old made her international debut at senior level for her adopted country, Italy, by competing in the 4×400m event at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing. She ran the third leg in the team that finished 5th in the heats of the first round, with a time of 3:27.07.

After the race in Beijing last year, she spoke to Making of Champions about her Nigerian roots and how she started running for Italy. You can watch the interview below.

With age still on her side, Folorunso could go on to become successful for Italy, and will be hoping to make their team to the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources. Formerly the Content Manager-Sports at Ringier media Nigeria, Chris is a Senior Sports writer, Photographer & Community manager at Making of Champions.
