Toyin Augustus is proving that age is not a barrier as she yet again followed up her win at the Boston Last Chance meet with another victory in the women’s 60m Hurdles at the Armory Track Indoor competition in New York, United States.

At the New York meet, Augustus further lowered her winning time of 8.47s in Boston, clocking 8.31s this time around to take the victory. She defeated Jessie Gaines who was 2nd with 8.37s.

Bouncing back into reckoning after some time out from the sport may be Augustus’ way of bowing out of Track and Field on a high.

Under normal circumstances, the 36-year old would be said to be on her way to retirement, but her current form could give younger athletes like Oluwatobiloba Amusan and Lindsay Weyinme a lot to worry about, seeing that she hasn’t shown any sign of rustiness.

Augustus has won two continental titles for Nigeria, and will be hoping to at least make the team to the African Athletics Championships later this year in Durban, South Africa.

Who knows, if she could run a high 12s or low 13s in the women’s 100m hurdles, she could be in the frame for consideration when the Nigeria team to Rio 2016 Olympics is announced.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
