Ta lou in 2015 when she narrowly missed qualifying for the women's 200m final

Double African Games GOLD medallist Marie Josée Ta Lou is already flying in 2016, as she last weekend powered her way to victory in the 60m at the French Indoor National Championships held in Aubière.

Ta Lou won the 60m clocking a time of 7.12s as Carole Zahi finished 2nd with a time of 7.18s, and Jennifer Galais 3rd in 7.27s.

Ta Lou has been impressive in the last seven months, and she’s been knocking on the door in a bid to outshine Ivory Coast’s more recognized golden girl, Murielle Ahouré, who holds her country’s record of 6.99s in the 60m.

Earlier this year, we rated Ta Lou as one African athlete who could spring up a rivalry with Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare and her countrywoman Ahouré. Okagbare holds the African Record in the 100m with a time of 10.79s, while Ahouré holds the Ivorian National Record of 10.81s.

However, with the way Ta Lou is running of late, 2016 could be a three-horse race between her, Okagbare and Ahouré over who will be the best performing African female athlete.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
