11) Seye Ogunlewe

He knocked many times; finally the door opened for Ogunlewe who this year won the Nigerian 100m title. Ogunlewe is the second fastest Nigerian sprinter this year with 10.19s, and it was not surprising that he came to the competition with a lot of expectation.

Winning his semifinal races, he replicated the same feat in the final to be crowned Nigerian champion, showing that he could hold his own at home too.

He didn’t make the trip to Beijing but was chosen to be in Brazzaville where he finished 4th in the 100m with a time of 10.35s, although he was ill coming into the competition.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources. Formerly the Content Manager-Sports at Ringier media Nigeria, Chris is a Senior Sports writer, Photographer & Community manager at Making of Champions.
