More winners have emerged from our Fantasy Race competition, with Vincent Michael owner of Team TobiAmusan claiming the top spot after the Lausanne Diamond League contest in the MoC league.

Although Team TobiAmusan is the adjudged winner going by his status of being resident in Nigeria, Arigis Theo’s team actually won, but we believe he doesn’t live in Nigeria, which makes him ineligible to claim the reward.

Interestingly, the Lausanne DL saw Team Top Sprinters finally knocked off their perch, and also out of the top 100 in the world, ranked at number 18th from Lausanne and down to 5th in the MoC League.

While some might have counted their losses from the Athlessima Meeting, it wasn’t so bad for those who were brave enough with their selections. For example, Wayde Van Niekerk made his Diamond League appearance in Lausanne, and it was expected that he would win.

He surely did, even storming to a Meeting Record (MR) and those who picked him as captain earned 60 points, while those who didn’t think he was going to dip under 44s so early on in the season could only rue the missed opportunity. At least his record breaking feat in Ostrava in the 300m some weeks earlier should have given a clue.

Or, did you even see Muktar Edris winning the men’s 5000m with an MR? Considering that these athletes practically rotate who wins this event amongst themselves, going by its unpredictability in previous meets.

One of the shocking results of Lausanne DL came in the women’s 400m Hurdles where Dalilah Muhammad whom many chose in their teams ended with a Did Not Finish (DNF). That was some 15 points lost.

How the teams placed after Lausanne Diamond Race contest

For our Senior Sports Writer Yemi Olus who out of the blues chose Aman Wote in her Pacesetters’ team, she got rewarded with maximum points as the Ethiopian won the men’s 1500m.

Team TobiAmusan (no doubt christening his team after the Nigerian 100m Hurdles athlete) won Lausanne amassing a total of 225 points, twenty points more than Adeyemi Akitoye’s team who finished 2nd with 205 points and Beejaylee’s team (Olaniyan Bolaji Muhammed) 3rd with 202 points.

Pacesetters team actually finished 3rd ahead of Beejaylee’s team with 203 points, but the latter gets upgraded to 3rd as the former is ineligible to be rewarded because she’s a staff of MoC.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
