After Doha Diamond League Fantasy Race last weekend, our CEO Bambo Akani is topping the chart and living up to his team’s name: “Top Sprinters” as he seems to be sprinting past everybody at number one in the Making of Champions (MoC) League.

Akani accumulated a total of 164 points and was just 4 points shy of scratching the top 100 in the world, where Michael Longley’s team leads with 205 points after getting a near perfect pick, with all the athletes he chose winning except LaShawn Merritt who was 2nd in the men’s 400m.

The closest challenger to Akani in the MoC League is Peter Ibironke who is 2nd with 162 points, and Vincent Michael who interestingly christened his team after Nigerian Hurdler Oluwatobiloba Amusan, known as #TeamTobiAmusan 3rd with 160 points. Christopher Oche finished 4th with 157 points, and so seals the last top three spots for players who are not MoC staff.

With Olympic Champion Ruth Jebet finishing 3rd in the women’s Steeple Chase and Hyvin Kiyeng even going on to set a Meeting Record (MR), those who chose her as their captain had to see her return a meagre 14points.

For those gifted with foresight and having chosen Caster Semenya or were even brave to make Thomas Rohler captain, they had cause to smile as each posted MRs as well, that saw them return 60points to the teams who chose them.

37 people picked teams for Doha, with some registering late and unable to navigate through team transfers to be able to play. Do note that you have to select a team TWO HOURS before kick-off of every Diamond League meet, that way you will be eligible to play.

So with Shanghai Diamond League up next, there is no doubt that the respective teams will be plotting their comeback strategies, because with 13 more Diamond Leagues to go, you never might know when a team will be opening a big gap.

However, if Top Sprinters continue sprinting this way, they could well be out of sight by the time we get to Zurich or Brussels.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
