Daegu 2011 World Champion in the women’s 400m, Amantle Montsho has returned to action after serving a two-year ban for failing a dope test at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 33-year old competed at the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) Track and Field meet held at the Lobatse Sports Complex on Saturday, February 18th.

Montsho who competed from Lane 7, placed 3rd in the 400m, clocking a Season’s Best (SB) of 54.01s to finish behind Lydia Jele and Christine Botlogetswe who posted times of 52.86s and 53.04s respectively.

The former Commonwealth Champion also ran in the 200m where she returned a time of 24.41s to place 2nd as Jele once again took the lead in 23.70s. Ontiretse Molapisi finished third with a time of 25.19s.

Speaking to www.dailynews.gov.bw after her race, Montsho expressed satisfaction at her performance during the weekend:

“I think I am getting there; I started working on my speed. All along we have been working on my endurance; I am happy. Now more emphasis will be on working on the speed techniques,” she said.

Montsho is seeking qualification for the forthcoming IAAF World Championships in London. However, she needs to meet the entry standard of 52.10s if she’s to run at the Olympic Stadium come August.

Teammates Baboloki Thebe, Karabo Sibanda, and Nijel Amos have already qualified for the World Championships.
