Nigerian quarter-miler, Paul Dedewo is definitely
up for big times this year, as the speedster has once again shattered his 400m Indoor Personal Best (PB) for the second time in three weeks.
Dedewo, competing in his second indoor race of the year, erased his previous PB of 46.33s to clock a new one of 45.73s, for his second win of year 2017, at the Northern Arizona University Tune-Up Meet on Saturday, February 18th.
This time is just 0.32s shy of his outdoor PB. His achievement is certainly noteworthy, and shows the impressive form he’s in ahead of the outdoor season, with the World Championships in sight.
Another interesting fact that Nigerian Athletics faithfuls can salivate about is the impending rivalry between Dedewo and University of Florida’s Kunle Fasasi. The UF sophomore has also been in fantastic form this season, setting an indoor PB of 46.02s a few weeks ago.
With Fasasi set to race in a week’s time at the South Eastern Championships, it’s expected that the reigning National Champion in the event will aim for a new PB by going sub-46s for the first time in his indoor career, even as he chases his first individual medal in the NCAAs.
Both men are still gunning for the World Championships qualifying mark of 45.50s, but with the outstanding indoor form they’ve shown thus far, it may be only a matter of time before the pair achieve the mark, when they finally shift gears outdoors.
