2015 Nigerian Trials
Gloria Asumnu came close to winning the double, finishing 2nd in the 200m.

Nigerian Champion Gloria Asumnu has joined Blessing Okagbare and Peace Uko in sealing her spot in the women’s 100m event at the forthcoming Olympic Games, having raced to a Season’s Best (SB) of 11.24s at the Altis Invitational in Phoenix Arizona.

The qualifying mark for the women’s 100m is 11.32s, and running faster than the IAAF entry standard was indeed the perfect gift for the sprinter who marked her birthday a day after achieving this feat.

Asumnu finished 2nd behind Jamaica’s Schillione Calvert who won the race in 11.19s, while Shai-Anne Davis placed 3rd in 11.48s.

The former African 200m champion had earlier clocked 11.35s in the heats, which was just 0.01s shy of her former SB set in Texas earlier in the month.

Also in action at the the Shoenhair Track and Field Stadium was the pair of James Howell and Abiola Onakoya who placed 5th and 6th respectively in the men’s 400m in 46.85s and 47.40s.

The race was won by Egypt’s Anas Beshr in 45.43s, with Frankie Wright (46.31s) and Stephon Pamilton (46.57s) placing 2nd and 3rd.

Toyin Augustus competed in the 100m Hurdles, finishing 3rd overall in the heats in a time of 13.25s, before lowering her time to 13.14s in the final where she placed 3rd behind Morgan Snow (12.92s) and Evonne Britton (13.02s).
