Nigeria’s Tosin Oke on Wednesday finished 5th with a mark of 16.65m in the men’s Triple Jump at the IAAF World Challenge in Beijing, China.

The national champion was making a return to the Bird’s Nest Stadium where he finished 8th in the finals last year during the World Championships, leaping 16.81m then.

It was a 1-2 finish for China, with Bin Dong taking the win in 17.24m, as his compatriot Shuo Cao came in 2nd at 16.98m, and Cuba’s Alexis Copello 3rd going a distance of 16.93m.

Earlier this month, the trio of Dong, Copello and Oke competed at the Doha Diamond League, with Dong finishing 2nd in 17.07m, while Copello was 3rd with 16.98m and Oke 5th jumping a Season’s Best of 16.73m.

This meet was Oke’s second outdoor competition of the season, and he will be looking at getting involved in more competitions in preparation for the Olympics.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
